Pawan Malhotra was born on July 2, 1958, in Nawabganj, Tis Hazari, New Delhi. He grew up in a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family that had migrated from Lahore after the partition. He completed his schooling at Manav Sthali School, New Delhi, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Hansraj College, Delhi University.

Initially, his family expected him to join their machine tools business, but Pawan’s passion for acting led him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Pawan Malhotra is married to Aparnaa Malhotra, a writer. His father, Trilok Raj Malhotra, was a businessman, and his mother, Asha Rani Malhotra, was a homemaker. He has three elder brothers and two elder sisters, one of whom passed away.

Despite his busy career, Pawan maintains strong ties with his family, who have been a source of support throughout his journey.

Pawan Malhotra began his career as a wardrobe assistant for the film Gandhi (1982). He made his acting debut with Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984). However, his breakthrough came with Bagh Bahadur and Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro in 1989.

These films showcased his ability to portray complex characters and earned him critical acclaim. Over the years, he has delivered memorable performances in films like Black Friday (2004), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), and Punjab 1984 (2014).
