John Abraham was born on 17 December 1972 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His real name is Farhan Irani, as he belongs to a mixed religious and ethnic background. His father, Abraham John, is a Malayali Syrian Christian from Kerala, and his mother, Firoza Irani, is a Zoroastrian Parsi from Iran.

He has a younger brother, Alan Abraham, who is an architect. John was baptised with the name John, but he also uses his Zoroastrian name Farhan.John grew up in Mumbai and attended the Bombay Scottish School. He was a good athlete and participated in the 100 and 200 meters runs.

He completed his B.A. in Economics from Jai Hind College, University of Mumbai, and then pursued his MBA from Mumbai Educational Trust. He was interested in photography and travelling since his childhood.

JJohn Abraham is married to Priya Runchal, a banker and investment analyst, since 2014. The couple had a private wedding ceremony in Los Angeles, USA, and announced their marriage on Twitter. They have no children as of now.
Before marrying Priya, John was in a long-term relationship with actress Bipasha Basu, whom he met on the sets of Jism in 2002.

They dated for nine years and were one of the most loved couples in Bollywood. However, they parted ways in 2011, citing personal differences.
John has also been linked with other actresses and models, such as Riya Sen, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, and Chitrangada Singh, but he has denied any romantic involvement with them.

John Abraham started his career as a model and appeared in several advertisements and music videos. He won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999 and went on to represent India at the Manhunt International in Philippines, where he was the first runner-up. He also modelled for brands like Levi’s, Philips, Yamaha, and Castrol.
He made his film debut in 2003 with the erotic thriller Jism, opposite Bipasha Basu. The film was a sleeper hit and earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He got his breakthrough in 2004 with the action film Dhoom, where he played the antagonist Kabir, a charismatic bike racer and robber.
