Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar (born 22 June 1974) is an Indian actor, playback singer and producer, who works in the Tamil film industry. Son of film director and producer S. A. Chandrasekhar, he started his career as a child actor and later made his debut as a lead actor in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu. He launched the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a social welfare organisation in 2009.
His nicknamed “Ilaya Thalapathy” (young general) by his fans, he has appeared in more than 50 Tamil films and earned accolades, including Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and has been described as one of the successful stars of Tamil cinema.
In 2015, the fantasy film Puli was released. His next film, the action thriller film Theri, co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson and Produced by S. Dhanu got released on April 2016 to positive reviews and became one of the highest grossing Tamil film of 2016. He is currently acting on an untitled film (commonly referred to as “Vijay 60”) directed by Bharathan and produced by Vijaya Productions.
