Mohammad Irfan (Cricket, Bowler Pakistan Team) (born 6 June 1982) is a Pakistani left arm fast bowler. He is notable for his height and pace. His height of 7’1? (216 cm) makes him the tallest player to play first-class and international cricket, a title that was previously shared by former West Indian fast bowler Joel Garner and Australian pace bowler Bruce Reid, both of whom are 6’8? (203 cm) tall.
Before he was offered a lucrative break in cricket, Irfan contemplated giving up the game and was working for a plastic pipe company. He confirmed his height as 7’1? which makes him the tallest first-class cricketer of all time above county players Anthony Allom, Paul Dunkels and Will Jefferson, each individually measured at 6’10”.
Irfan’s strength is to get extra bounce from a good length. The biggest challenge for a batsman facing him is that he’s forced to recalibrate his eyeline. As a batsman you’re conditioned to keeing your line of sight almost parallel to the pitch, for that allows you to follow the full trajectory of the ball. If you’re looking slightly high, you may not be in the best position to play full balls, and if you’re looking slightly low, you may misread short balls.
